How You Can Trobleshoot and fix A Flexalite Electric Fan

After-market electrical fans keep engines running cooler.

The Flex-a-lite company has been manufacturing vehicle fans since 1968. The company introduced electric-powered fans to their product line in 1978, expanding beyond previously manufacturing only belt-driven fans. Flex-a-lite electric fans are installed as after-market accessories for improved vehicle performance and longer wear. Troubleshooting a Flex-a-lite electric fan requires a working knowledge of electrical wiring.

Instructions

1. Verify proper voltage on the wire connected to the positive terminal if the fan fails to start. Verify the positive post fuse is not blown. Verify that both ground and power wires are properly attached to terminals "G" and "B." Verify that the motor is properly wired. The black motor wire should be connected to the M negative terminal and the white motor wire should be connected to the M positive terminal.

2. Verify that the temperature probe is positioned near the top radiator hose if the fan experiences a delayed start. Verify proper temperature setting on the control knob, located on top of the control box. Adjust the temperature control knob if the setting is too high.

3. Verify proper ground wiring from terminals "G" and "B" if the fan stops operating.

4. Verify proper splicing into the positive trigger wire from terminal "C" on the control box if the fan runs too long or constantly. Turn off the defrost setting on the vehicle.
