How You Can Breed Lilac Crowned Amazons

Parrots are beautiful and intelligent creatures.

The Lilac Crowned Amazon is a species of parrot found in Mexico. This parrot is known for being good-natured and extremely intelligent, making it popular among parrot breeders. But successfully breeding Lilac Crowned Amazons requires dedication and attention to detail.

Instructions

1. Get an equal number of male and female Lilac Crowned Amazon parrots. The size of your breeding operation can be as large as you wish.

2. Build a circular nest box at least 31-39 inches high and 12-14 inches in diameter with an opening of 4-5 inches on one side. You can make the box bigger if you wish, but this is the minimum size for a pair of parrots. Place soft bedding material inside the nest box to create a more comfortable environment.

3. Wait for the warm season. Lilac Crowned Amazons generally begin their courtship ritual in April or May.

4. Allow for courtship to begin and wait for the egg laying. A female Lilac Crowned Amazon will brood for about 26-28 days. During this period, the male will do all the hunting and feed the mother.

5. Check to see if the eggs have been laid in early summer. The female will usually lay two to four white eggs.

6. Watch the parrots until the eggs have hatched. The hatchlings will be fluffy, naked and blind. They'll develop into their full adult forms within 70-100 days, and will have their complete plumage by then.

7. Remove the nest box until next breeding season. Keep the parrots in a different environment until the same time next year.
