Your own backyard can yield plenty of hydrangeas for centerpieces.
Pure white hydrangeas go beautifully in centerpieces for any occasion. A backyard family reunion, a formal wedding reception, an intimate dinner-for-two and a lavish anniversary party are just a few events for which white hydrangeas combined with other summer flowers can create memorable tablescapes. Depending on the time of year, an avid flower gardener can find many of the flowers right in her own backyard and round out her selections at roadside stands, depending upon the number of centerpieces needed.
White and Something Blue
A single, lush white hydrangea with its own leaves cut for greenery and a sprig of forget-me-knots arranges easily in a low square or round, clear glass bowl. It works well as a centerpiece at a table for four or as an individual arrangement at a table for 10 or 12.
Pastel Harmony
White hydrangeas, pale pink roses and pink blush gerbera daisies mass together for low arrangements that allow for an easy flow of conversation. This same combination also works in tower arrangements, with the addition of some trailing ivy. With a tower arrangement, small vases holding a single white hydrangea and votive candles beautifully complement the tablescape.
Summer Fun Combination
A mini watermelon cut in half, scoped out and filled with white hydrangeas, snapdragons and dahlias makes a whimsical arrangement for casual entertaining. A nice addition to this centerpiece is pieces of bear grass folded in half and interspersed throughout the arrangement.
English Garden Harmony
Create the look of an English garden with white hydrangeas, lavender-faced pansies, pink cabbage roses, white ranunculus and blush sweetheart roses. Bundle each flower variety into its own bouquet, then gather together the five bouquets into one eye-catching centerpiece that rests in a low, white ceramic container.
Oriental Influence
A lined, square gilded wooden box filled with white hydrangeas, green spider mums and white lisianthus gets a finishing touch with China berries. This low centerpiece has an oriental influence that is both simple and sophisticated.
All-White Presentation
A low, clear glass vase with white hydrangeas surrounded by white ranunculus and trailing white sweet peas is one example of an all-white arrangement. Combining fragrant, white Casa Blanca lilies, white roses and white hydrangeas is another all-white possibility.
Fruit and Flower Combos
Pale pink peonies and pure white hydrangeas arranged in a bouquet placed in an urn and supported by green apples is one way to use fruit in a flower arrangement. Sugar-coated green grapes and pears arranged with white hydrangeas, purple lisianthus, trailing ivy and maidenhair fern is another option.
Three-Vase Arrangements
Three cylinder vases in varied heights add up to one beautiful arrangement. Place white hydrangeas in the tallest; white dahlias, ranunculus or roses in the mid-size vase and white sweet peas or lily-of-the-valley in the lowest vase.
