Steps To Make The Crackle Back Trout Fly For Flyfishing

Tying your own flies is almost as enjoyable as the actual fly fishing. Many a fly fisher is envied by his friends for the amazing flies he's tied. Whether you like wet flies or dry flies, learning to tie your own is a wonderful way to enjoy the days when you can't fish. Read on to learn how to make the crackle back trout fly for fly fishing.

Instructions

1. Begin with two strands of peacock, available at most fishing retailers.

2. Lay the peacock strands near the back of your hook shank and wrap them with piano wire.

3. Cut away any excess length that shows above the wrap. Cut carefully around the piano wire that secures the feather to the hook.

4. Take about five feather fibers from a turkey feather, also available at most fishing retailers. Detach the fibers by cutting them out of the feather shaft. These feathers will become the body of your fly.

5. Tie the turkey feathers to your hook shank as you did the peacock strands. Wrap the section of feather closest to the stem on the end of your hook shank.

6. Finish the crackle back trout fly with the whip stitch to secure it to your hook shank. Remove any excess piano wire.

7. Adjust the peacock strands and feathers to make the fly more attractive. You may need to do this prior to fishing, depending upon how you store your flies.
