Steps To Make A Girly Canopy

Tulle comes in many colors --c hoose a color that complements your child's room decor.

Canopies are a decorative accent suitable for both adults and children alike. In an adult room, canopies add a sense of romance and exotic flare. When used in a little girl's room, however, a canopy will make her feel like she is sleeping in the bed of a princess. Making your own canopy for a girl's room is quite simple, even if your sewing skills are rudimentary. Once the canopy is constructed, hang it from a hook in the ceiling above your child's bed.

Instructions

1. Measure from the floor to ceiling in the room where the canopy will be placed and measure half the circumference of the quilting hoop. Cut two pieces of tulle that match the height of the room and half the circumference of the hoop.

2. Fold the edge of the tulle over the quilting hoop and secure the material every few inches with clothespins -- regular pins would allow the fabric to move and bunch up, but clothespins will hold the material in place on the hoop.

3. Sew the pieces of tulle to the hoop with your sewing machine. This might be a bit awkward at first because you will need to place the hoop upright on your machine's arm to the left of the needle in order to create the stitch. Rotate the hoop as you sew to create a straight stitch.

4. Cut two strips of tulle that are slightly longer than the diameter of the hoop. Tie the strips so they sit in an "X" formation over the top of the quilting hoop -- these strips will be used to hang the canopy from a hook in the ceiling.

5. Plug in your hot glue gun until it is ready for use. Apply a thin layer of hot glue on the outer rim of the hoop.

6. Press the feather boa on top of the hot glue to secure it. Work in 1-foot sections to prevent the glue from drying too quickly. Continue gluing until the boa completely surrounds the hoop to conceal it. Trim off any excess boa and glue the end to the hoop.
