The Ways To Use A Plastic Hay

Plastic straws have several uses other than as a drinking aids.

There are many uses for plastic straws, whether you are using bendy straws or a straight ones like the kind you get in your drinks at fast-food restaurants. Not only are plastic straws great for drinking with, but they're also good supplies for craft projects and many other uses around the house. Although they may not seem that sturdy, they have many purposes other than their intended use.

Arts and Crafts

One of the ways that people use straws is for arts and crafts. You and your kids can use straws to make miniature versions of buildings such as the Eiffel Tower. You can make designs on paper by putting a couple drops of paint down and using a straw to blow the paint around. On windy days, you can make a kite out of straws and tissue paper, or you can make something similar to a weather vane to hang outside. Create bracelets and necklaces by squeezing one end of a straw so it fits into the other end of a straw until you have a completed piece of jewelry.

Storage Ideas

If you don't have time to make your favorite on-the-go drink mixes or flavor packets for your water, or if you don't have the money to buy them in individual packets, then you can store them in a plastic straw. You can store many small things in plastic straws simply by putting a piece of tape over one end or folding one end over and then taping it in place. A straw can hold up to 3 tbsp. of powdered material, such as a drink mix, a spice or sugar.

If you have a toolbox with random small nuts and bolts in it, store the items in a few plastic straws instead of having them strewn about in your toolbox.

Pratical Uses

People use straws to help them with everyday things such as arranging bouquets and constructing cakes. If you have flowers that are too short for a vase, put the stems in the end of straws and then cut the straw to the appropriate length to make the flowers taller.

If you have trouble getting all the air out of freezer bags, use a straw to suck the air out right before you close the bag.

When constructing a tiered cake, you can use straws to help hold the tiers together and keep the cake from caving in. The straws can be used in the cake in place of wooden dowels, which can mold.

Games and Other Fun Uses

There are many games you can play with straws that will entertain a group of kids for hours. Get a bowl with dish soap and dip the straws in it to blow bubbles. Tape a couple straws together to make bigger bubbles. You can set up an obstacle course and use a straw to blow a feather or some other light object around the course. Another game with straws requires you to suck little pieces of paper up and transport them to another place; the team that does it the fastest wins.
