How To Begin A Pedicure Business

Apply for a business license to start a pedicure business in your area.

Start a pedicure business to pamper clients and to sell foot care products such as moisturizing creams and lotions. Many people take advantage of pedicure services to help keep their feet attractive, especially during summer months. Build a solid client base by providing quality customer service, a wide range of pedicure services such as foot massage, rough skin treatments and toe polishing. Create a spa-like atmosphere to make clients comfortable and to encourage clients to return.

Instructions

1. Apply for a business license by contacting the small business administration office or county clerk's office in your area to start a pedicure business. Apply for an employer identification number (EIN) by contacting the Internal Revenue Service. Use your EIN on state and federal business tax forms and other business documents. Register your pedicure business as a limited liability company (LLC), corporation or partnership by contacting your state's Secretary of State's office. Apply for a sales tax identification number to collect sales tax from customers by contacting your state's Department of Revenue. Protect your pedicure business by purchasing business insurance such as general liability, product, property and worker's compensation.

2. Lease commercial retail space in a busy shopping area from a commercial real estate agent. The retail space should be large enough to create several pedicure stations, waiting area for clients and display area for products.

3. Purchase materials such as nail files, nail buffers, foot creams, towels, soaking bowls, salon chairs and foot care products to sell to customers. Purchase retail software to track pedicure appointments, inventory and sales.

4. Market your pedicure business by creating fliers and business cards. Contact hair salons, day spas and beauty schools to increase awareness of your business and to ask for referrals. Create a website to showcase pedicures and pedicure products. Include contact information and hours of operation. List your business in local business directories.
