Just because princesses are royal does not mean they can't have a ball. Give girls the opportunity to live out some of their royal fantasies by playing games at a princess party. Whimsical princess themed elements give traditional party games a regal update. By the time the festivities are over, your little guests will certainly feel like real princesses.
Starting Out
Games for a princess party can be played in a large area outside or inside. Start with a royal version of Hot Potato. Have the guests sit in a circle, and play music while they pass around a tiara or plastic princess slipper. When the music stops, the person holding the item gets to control the music next. Another traditional game with a princess twist is Crown the Princess. Similar to Pin the Tail on the Donkey, blindfolded guests will try to stick a paper crown onto a poster of a princess.
Active Games
Before the party, hide princess-related items around your home or yard, such as crowns, tiaras, scepters, fancy shoes and costume jewelry. Have a treasure hunt for the princesses by dividing them into groups and giving each group a list of hidden items and clues to find them. For added detail, write the lists and clues on thick paper and roll it up like a scroll by gluing a wooden dowel across the top and bottom.
Invite the guests to enjoy a royal relay race. Divide the group into two teams. For each team have a collection of princess dress-up clothes, such as a tiara, gloves, feather boas, jeweled plastic sunglasses and jewelry. Have each team line up, and put each team's clothes about 10 yards away. The first person in each line runs to the clothes, puts them on, runs back to her line, takes off the clothes and gives them to the next person to put on. That person then runs to where the clothes were, takes them off and runs back to the line. The process continues until everyone has put on and taken off the dress-up clothes.
Find out which of your guests is the "most royal." Have a short story time and tell the tale of the princess and the pea. Then "test" your princesses by putting a small ball under cushions or pillows. Have the guests sit on the cushions to see if they can find the ball. For younger guests, use a larger ball or tennis ball. Challenge older princesses by using a marble.
