Thanksgiving turkey games will add more spice to a special holiday.
Thanksgiving is a festive and family-oriented time for everyone. Kids will enjoy playing turkey games as part of the celebration. Traditional games like an egg hunt, bowling and racing games can be adapted to the season with turkey decorations. Children are involved in the creation of the game pieces as well as the game itself for added enjoyment.
Turkey Hunt
The Turkey Hunt game is similar to an Easter egg hunt except you’re hunting turkeys. First, help the children decorate plastic eggs to look like turkeys. Cut out wings, a tail and a turkey head from construction paper. Glue or tape the turkey head and wings to one half of a plastic egg, and the tail to the other half. Place a candy treat in each turkey. A parent or teacher then hides the turkeys.
To make sure that each child gets a turkey, children hunt for a turkey one at a time. A parent or teacher should say "gobble" instead of "warmer" when the child gets close to a turkey. The closer the child gets to the turkey, the louder the parent or teacher "gobbles," so be prepared for lots of laughs as the adult "gobbles" louder and louder.
Turkey Bowling
Help children cut out turkey shapes from construction paper. Have the children tape or glue the turkeys to plastic bowling pins. Set up the pins on one side of the room. Let children play in teams with one group playing defense and the other group playing offense.
The defenders stand in front of the turkeys, halfway between the turkeys and the other players. The object of the game is to prevent the offensive players from knocking the turkeys down with a plastic bowling ball. Defenders have to face the turkeys so that they cannot see the player who will roll the ball. The defenders block the ball with their feet as it rolls toward the turkeys. You may also play the game in innings like a baseball game. After three players fail to knock down the turkeys, they are "out" and the teams switch sides.
Turkey Race
a Turkey Race is an amusing racing game played outside in a grassy field or sandy play area. Pair children in teams and give each team a football. The teams create their turkey by taping a turkey head, wings and tail to a football. Create the turkey using a brown paper bag stuffed with crumpled up newspapers and decorated with wings, a head and a tail. The teams then stand with their backs together and link their arms. The turkey is placed between the children.
If a team drops their turkey, they must pick up the turkey and run back to the beginning. A parent or teacher places the turkey between the players and they start again. The first team to make it to the finish line without dropping their turkey is the winner of the game.
