Create your own fashionable headbands.
Headbands are a hair accessory that women and girls of all ages use. There are two types of headbands: the hard plastic band that loops from ear to ear and the cloth band that encircles your head. Both types of headbands can be adorned with flowers, bows and sparkles. The sky's the limit when you create your own headbands. The best part of creating your own headband is that you end up with multiple bands for a fraction of the cost.
Instructions
1. Visit your local craft store. Browse the ribbons and yarn and select a variety of items that appeal to you. Look through the gemstones and fake flowers and pick out a few of your favorites. As you make your selections, envision how each item might go together.
2. Purchase some cheap, plain headbands. Buy some hard plastic headbands and cloth bands that encircle the entire head.
3. Envision the type of headband you would like to make. Cut the ribbon into 18- to 24-inch strips and tie the strips into bows. Wrap the yarn around the plastic headband. Place a dab of fabric glue on the headband every 1/2 inch to hold the yarn in place. Wrap the yarn around and around the band until the entire band is covered.
4. Place a dab of fabric glue on the back of the ribbons, gemstones and flowers. Push these items in place on the headbands. Try putting the flower to one side of the band or right on top. Encircle the flower with a few sparkly gemstones or glue gemstones to a hard plastic band. Alternate a variety of stones or place the same stone every 1/2 inch across the top. Hold them to the band with binder clips until the glue has dried.
5. Hold a plastic headband in one hand. Carefully place a piece of double-sided tape over the top edge. Cut the tape to fit the headband. Peel off the paper backing. Lay a piece of ribbon across the double-sided tape.
