Easy Valentine Crafts for Adults With Disabilities
Adults with disabilities would love to make Valentine's day crafts for the friends and families. However, an assessment of their abilities may leave you scratching your head and wondering how to accommodate them. With some careful preparation, you can help them create Valentine's crafts that they will be proud to share. Here are some easy ideas for Valentine's crafts for adults with disabilities.
Preparation
When making Valentine's crafts with adults with disabilities, its a good idea to do some of the prep work yourself, to make the craft even easier. For instance, you could cut out shapes beforehand and supply glue so that they only need to arrange the shapes on the paper and glue them down. Make sure to gather all of the supplies together ahead of time, so that you are completely prepared. A little preparation goes a long way in making crafts easier to do with adults with disabilities. Once you've done the prep work, you can enjoy helping them with their crafts without worrying about getting everything ready.
Valentine's Pencil Toppers
A great craft for disabled adults is Valentine's pencil toppers. Cut out double heart and cupid shapes, or any other shape that represents love. Glue only the edges of the shapes together, leaving an opening at the bottom. Supply the adults with glitter, feathers, markers, the new pencils in pink and red and other craft supplies. They can roll the pencils in glitter or put stickers on them, and then decorate the toppers with feathers and glitter as well. When they are done, they'll have new pencils to give as treasured gifts to family and friends or pencils that they can keep and use themselves.
Candy Jars
Help the disabled adults that you are doing crafts with make an attractive gift for their families by helping them to make a candy jar. You can provide regular canning jars that have been cleaned and dried, and beforehand glue a little Valentine's fabric onto the caps to conceal the cap rings. Then provide craft supplies so that the adults can decorate the candy jars with stickers, glitter and other embellishments. Then place dishes of candy on the craft table so that they can choose their family's favorite kinds of candy, whether it is jelly beans, gummy bears or cinnamon hearts, and present them to their Valentine's as a gift.
