Ways To Get Ink Stains From A Wood Table

Get your wood table looking new again.

If you accidentally get ink stains on your wood table, they can be easy to remove. In some cases, a strong cleaner such as mineral spirits can remove the ink stain. In other cases, you may need to sand and re-stain the area to completely remove it.

Instructions

1. Dip your feather lightly into the mineral spirits, and then touch it to the spot where the ink has stained. Be careful not to get too much of the mineral spirits on the table because it could damage the clear polyurethane finish on the rest of the table. Rub the area with a rag soaked in water as soon as the ink is gone, otherwise you risk the polyurethane turning white.

2. Sand the area with the ink stain, if the above method does not remove your ink stain. Use a grit of sandpaper that is not too abrasive, but abrasive enough to remove your stain. Try a few different grits until you find one that removes the ink, but does little damage to the wood table. Remove the ink stain, and then use a lighter grit sandpaper to smooth the area out.

3. Stain the area with a rag dipped lightly into stain that matches your wood table. Home centers can help you locate matching stain. Wipe any excess stain away and let the stain dry completely, at least eight to twelve hours.

4. Apply a second coat of the stain, and then sand the area again with light sandpaper. Allow area to dry.

5. Apply a coat of polyurethane in a gloss finish matching the rest of the table with the polyurethane brush.
