Steps To Make Chunky Flipflops

Making your own chunky flip flops can add flare to any outfit.

Making your own chunky flip flops can be an entertaining and exciting way to spice up a bridal shower, a baby shower, or your own wardrobe. Comfortable yet stylish, you can choose to decorate your chunky flip flops with as much or as little flair as you wish. Flair can can range from adding ribbons, crystals, and beads to applying fabric paint that gives your chunky flip flops a unique style for casual and possibly even work wear.

Instructions

1. Outline the shape of each foot with a craft pencil on a piece of thick foam, adding a quarter of an inch extra around the outline, to ensure a proper fit.

2. Cut the outlined shape out of the foam using a utility or Exacto knife.

3. Cut a slit into each foam piece on the top side, at the toe area (between where the great toe and the second toe would sit). Cut two more small slits on the top side of the foam, near the middle of the shoe. This is where the fabric or nylon strip will be glued into the shoe. Make sure this slit is on the top of the foam shoe not the side of the foam shoe.

4. Place one foot on top of the corresponding foam piece. From the center, measure your foot from one side of the center slit you just cut on the side on the foam piece, and then to the other slit on the other side of the foam piece. Add about an inch to that measurement to leave room for adequate movement when walking. Cut the material or nylon strap to fit these measurements. Repeat this step with the other foot and corresponding foam piece.

5. Fold one strap in half and squeeze the two halves together. Glue the middle point of the strap into the center hole on the foam piece that you cut in step three. Repeat this process with the other material or nylon strap on the other piece of foot shaped foam.

6. Beginning from the center slit, glue each side of the strap into one of the side slits that you cut into the foam in step three. Allow the glue to dry overnight before wearing.
