Buying Tulle

A sample of tulle lace

Tulle is a fine netting of fabric, typically made from silk, nylon or rayon. Available in a wide variety of colors, tulle is often used to make wedding veils, dresses, underskirts and tutus. Other uses include tulle bows for weddings and baby showers and tulle plant coverings for insect control. Tulle is readily available at fabric stores, online shops and other large retailers that sell fabric.

Instructions

1. Determine how much tulle you will need. If you need tulle to make a garment of clothing, consult your design pattern to see how much tulle is required. If you need tulle for a craft or decoration, make a general estimate of how much tulle you will need.

2. Decide what type of tulle you want. Since tulle comes in an assortment of fabrics and colors, choose what type of tulle you would like to buy before you head to the fabric store. If you need a large amount of tulle, consider purchasing a cheaper fabric such as nylon or rayon to save on costs. If you are making a wedding veil or gown, consider buying a silk tulle for a more refined look.

3. Visit your local fabric store. Once you have decided what type of tulle you want, head to the tulle section of a fabric store or retailer that sells fabric. Look for tulle that fits your needs and compare prices. If the store does not carry the tulle you desire, ask a salesperson if you can make a special order.

4. Purchase your tulle. After you have chosen your tulle, ask a salesperson to cut the correct amount of fabric for you.

5. Buy tulle online. If your local fabric store does not carry the tulle you desire, consider purchasing tulle online. Sites such as Tulle Source and Tulle Direct offer a wide assortment of tulle (see Resources).
