Noisemaker Crafts

Noisemaker crafts are a fun way for children to experience music and sound.

Noisemaker crafts provide a fun way for children to learn about music, art and various sounds. These projects work well in daycare and educational settings, as well as at home with individual children. Noisemaker craft projects can be altered to meet the needs of children of varying ages.

New Year's Noisemaker

To make a New Year's noisemaker, fill a plastic film canister halfway with popcorn kernels, beans, sand or dry pasta. Decorate the canister using stickers, glitter, pom-poms, faux feathers, paint or other embellishments. With adult assistance, puncture a hole in the cap of the canister and thread multiple colors of ribbon or streamers through the hole and knot it on the underside of the cap. Pop the cap onto the canister.

Paper Plate Tambourine

To make a paper plate tambourine, decorate the outside of two paper plates using glitter, markers, stickers, construction paper and other embellishments. Staple or glue multiple colors of ribbons or streamers around the inside edge of one of the plates. Line the inside edges of the paper plates together and staple three-fourths of the way around. Fill the plates a quarter of the way with dried pasta, sand, popcorn kernels or beans. Staple the remaining portion of the two plates together.

Box Guitar

First have an adult cut an oval shape in the top of a small, rectangular box, such as a shoe box or tissue box. Decorate the box using glitter, markers, stickers, construction paper and other embellishments. Stretch several rubber bands around the box lengthwise so that they go over the hole. Slide a pencil under the rubber bands, on one side of the oval hole. Adhere a cardboard roll, such as a paper towel roll, to one of the short ends of the box.

African Drum

Create an African drum by decorating a coffee can using glitter, markers, stickers, buttons, pom-poms, faux feathers, construction paper and other embellishments. If desired, use embellishments that create an African feel, such as stickers depicting safari animals or colors of the desert. Children make musical sounds by beating the lid with their hands.
