Abra cadabra! A magic wand.
Conjure up your own magic wand party favors for a child's party or theme birthday. Homemade wands are ideal for any party where wizards, witches, fairies and other magical creatures will be in attendance. Make the wands ahead of time, or assemble the wands and allow party guests to decorate them for an arts and crafts activity.
Instructions
1. Cover an outdoor area with newspaper. Ball up wads of Play-doh to make bases for the dowels. Stick the dowels in the dough so you can spray paint them evenly.
2. Spray paint the dowels metallic silver, gold, copper or bronze. Alternately, brush on metallic poster paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.
3. Trace a star-shaped cookie cutter on recycled cardboard. Cut out the star shapes (one per wand). Place each star in the middle of a piece of tinfoil. Fold the foil over the entire star, including each point. Fold or trim off any excess foil.
4. Use a hole punch to pierce a small hole through the star. Wrap a white chenille pipe cleaner through the hole and secure it to the star. Tie small strands of silver star garland, tinsel or leftover holiday garland to the the pipe cleaner under the star.
5. Wrap the length of the pipe cleaner around the dowel. Cut a small piece of feather boa. Glue the piece of boa around the top of the dowel to keep all of the parts in place.
