Many girls enjoy dressing up and role play games.
When girls get together for a party, a sleepover or even just a play date, makeup and dress-up games are often popular pastimes. Introduce some simple games to give their play a little more direction and focus. Collect interesting items of clothing and accessories to add more scope for their imagination -- keep them in an old trunk or suitcase so they are readily accessible. Ask friends or family to add to your collection if they are having a clear out, and search thrift stores for items such as costume jewelry, sunglasses and hats.
Instructions
1. Have the girls take turns pretending to be the designer and the model. Assemble a wide variety of clothes and accessories for the girls to choose from such as hats, scarves, gloves, sunglasses, costume jewelry and feather boas. Have the girl who is the designer select clothes for the model and style her in them.
2. Provide a large mirror for the girls to parade in front of while dressing up. Have the girls stage a fashion show and walk along a pretend catwalk. Play some funky music for the girls to strut along to during the show. Ask family members and friends to form an audience. Take photos of each model as a memento of her outfit.
3. Challenge the girls to create an outfit with a theme, such as a princess, fairy, doctor or business woman. Alternatively have them make outfits for different occasions including a trip to the beach or a walk in the rain. Make sure you have suitable items in the dress-up box for them to use. Encourage the girls to create stories and skits based on the characters they have created and offer to video them.
4. Assemble a makeup kit with eyeshadows and lipsticks in bright, funky colors that young girls will enjoy. Include plenty of body glitter and sparkly eyeliner. Play a game where the girls work in pairs and take turns applying makeup to each other. Add a humorous twist by having the girl who is applying the makeup work blindfolded. Take pictures of the funny results.
5. Complete the girls' looks by providing plenty of hair and nail accessories so they can experiment with different hairstyles and nail colors. Encourage some light-hearted role play as they take turns as the hairdresser. Show them how to make braids or pin hair up. Short hair can be spiked with hair gel or sprayed with temporary hair color to create outrageous looks.
