Crafts For Senior citizens To Create

Seniors, especially when they are living in long-term care homes, have long days to have to keep occupied. Crafts are the sort of thing that can help pass the time away, and it can exercise their brains at the same time. These are enjoyable and relaxing for many people, and they appreciate the effort that people make in inviting them to participate in them.

Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is an excellent craft for seniors because it is so versatile. They can scrapbook anything from Christmas cards to photographs of family or even magazine clippings. They can use any type of material that they choose, and many times it is an inexpensive craft because of this. You can use anything from construction paper, card stock, paper cut-outs, foam pieces, stickers, googly eyes, feathers, beads, felt, ribbon and so many other items--the list is endless. If these items are to be purchased by the care facility, then it can get them in bulk to save money.

Scrapbooking is easy to do in groups, as they can share their materials with each other and socialize at the same time. It doesn't take too much supervision, and it is not a difficult task. Even those with various illnesses or disabilities can do this.

Knitting

Knitting, although it might be seen more of a female pastime, also is done by men. You can do this with or without patterns. For those who want patterns, they easily can be found by the supervisor for free on the internet and available for the classes. There are easy items such as scarves or mats for pots and pans to make. They can be as creative as the knitters want because of the various shapes, colors and types of wool or yarn that are available.

This is another inexpensive craft because all the tools that are needed are the knitting needs and some wool. This is great for teaching in groups or for those who already know how to knit as they can sit around a room chatting with one another while making their creations.

One-Stroke Painting

This is great for seniors because there are a number of different techniques that they can use for their pictures, but they are not very complex to learn. They can create beautiful images such as flowers, boats, landscapes and hundreds of other images using this simple form of painting.

While this craft may take a more supervision because of the materials involved and probably the need for aprons to wear over clothes, it is fun and it can be done by everyone. You don't have to have a multitude of different colors because the artists can have some fun and mix up different colors themselves.
