Steps To Make Headbands For Any Saloon Girl Costume

Saloon girl costumes include flamboyant feathers.

Saloon girl costumes bring to mind over-the-top boas, feathers and ruffles. These girly items stand out in a crowd. Whether you are preparing for a western-themed party or for Halloween, the saloon girl costume is a quick costume, as well as a crowd-pleaser. A sparkly, feathery saloon girl headband is an affordable craft you can create in just a few hours. Each headband incorporates a unique flair by allowing you to choose the colors and design.

Instructions

1. Turn on your hot glue gun and allow it to heat up completely. Place a small dot of glue on the tip of the back of your sparkly ribbon. Press it onto underside of the plastic headband on one end. Begin wrapping the sparkly ribbon around the body of the headband in a spiral pattern, placing a dot of glue under the ribbon every few wraps. Continue wrapping the ribbon around until the whole headband is covered. Clip off the extra ribbon. Place a dot of glue on the tip of the ribbon and secure to the underside of the headband.

2. Place the 2-inch round of cardboard on a scrap of black fabric. Draw a circle around the cardboard that is 1 inch wider all the way around. Cut out the piece of fabric.

3. Wrap the black fabric around the piece of cardboard. Fold over the cloth onto the backside of the cardboard to create a taut cover on the front of the cardboard. Glue the fabric edges into place on the back of the cardboard with the hot glue gun.

4. Apply feathers to the prepared round of cardboard. Arrange about 10 feathers in a design on the cardboard before you begin gluing. Create a spray of feathers that will stick out in one general direction.

5. Apply a thin line of glue to the stem of the feather, along the side that you do not want to be seen. Press onto the cardboard piece. Continue gluing on the rest of your feathers in the same manner.

6. Place a dot of glue on the back of a sequin and place the sequin at the center of your feather formation. Keep gluing sequins into place to create a sparkly center to the head piece. Alternatively, glue fake gems or beads to the center of the piece.

7. Apply a 2-inch line of glue to the area on the headband where you want the feather piece to sit. Generally, the feather piece will rest nicely right above either ear. Press the back of the cardboard piece into place over the line of glue.
