Kid'S Karaoke Party Ideas

Kid's Karaoke Party Ideas

Many kids are natural stars, ready to showcase their talent to a supportive audience. Penny Warner explains in the book, "501 TV-Free Party Games for Kids" that karaoke is one way to replicate this feeling of stardom as they sing the words to their favorite pop songs. Once the karaoke machine is rented and loaded with pop songs, planning a star-studded party is the next step. Even if no real celebrities will be in attendance, each kid can be made to feel like one.

Rock Star Dress Up

Few could imagine what the legendary band Kiss would be like without the grim face paint and insane outfits. Similarly, Lady Gaga is just as famous for her style as her music. Help give the kids at the party their own unique image by providing costume accessories. Purchase sunglasses with huge frames, feather boas and gaudy costume jewelry. In the invitation, ask parents to dress their kids using accessories from old Halloween costumes. Ask kids to make their own celebrity names like "Princess Butterfly" or "Lizard Boy Eddie."

Choreographed Backup Dancers

Some of the best music videos, like Thriller, were created with the help of backup dancers. If the party is commemorating any one person, have her pick a song to sing. Choreograph a dance routine for the rest of the kids to learn and perform.

Or, make a band. Delegate one kid on drums, another on air guitar and choose a third to play bass. Use an upside down bucket for the drum. Ask to borrow fake video game guitars from any friends who own a rock video game.

Karaoke Awards

All great rockers are honored every year with various awards ceremonies. At the party, make up awards for each child, like "Best vocals," "Most creative presentation" or "Best new talent." Find inexpensive trophies, medals, ribbons or print off a certificate.

Red Carpet Rollout

Walking the red carpet is a rite of passage for celebrities. Replicate this sensation by creating a red carpet along the walkway of the house. Select red fabric to place along the sidewalk leading up to the door and create a backdrop for photos. The backdrop can have yellow stars painted on it or the name of the party inscribed on it.

For a souvenir, take a picture of each child in costume on a digital camera and make prints to distribute at the end of the evening. Also make a "star of Hollywood" cutout with their name on it. As the child enters the party, ask them to autograph their star.
