Steps To Make Paper Hats With Kids

How to Make Paper Hats With Kids

Paper hats are a fun craft for kids of all ages, whether you're at home, in the classroom or at a special gathering. You can use any variety of paper to create hats and encourage kids to individualize and paint them once they're folded so they have a unique memoir to take home. Once they've got the art of paper hat folding down, you can move on to bigger projects, like making origami animals and figures just for fun.

Instructions

1. Hand out sheets of newspaper to each child in the group.

2. Fold the newspaper in half from the bottom to the top and make a crease, then fold the newspaper in half again from side to side, creating a rectangle and creasing along the fold.

3. Unfold the newspaper once and inspect each piece to make sure the crease marks are clearly visible. You still want each paper to be folded into the original fold.

4. Bend the lower left corner of the paper into the middle of the crease so it forms a triangle. Run your finger along the edge of the fold to make a crease. Repeat this on the right side, so the bottom of your paper forms a point.

5. Fold the flap above the base of your last two folds downward against the edge of the base, creasing the bottom. Flip the paper over and repeat this on the other side. Your paper will now look like a boat.

6. Tuck the edges of the straight flaps into the creases so they don't stick out. Make sure the folds are even so the hat does not look out of proportion.

7. Pry the opening at the bottom of the hat open gently, and have the children place them on their heads.

8. Decorate the finished paper hats with paint, markers or stickers so each child has his own unique hat.
