If your kids are bored with the same old crayons and paper, try a new craft idea.
Everyone is looking for less expensive ways to have fun and are staying at home more and more. Craft projects can be quite cheap and kid-friendly ways to keep "cabin fever" at bay.
Mardi Gras Masks
Teach children about New Orleans culture by helping them decorate their own plastic masks with purple, green, and gold sequins, feathers and pompoms. You could even make your own king cake, strings of beads, mini floats and celebrate Mardi Gras at any time of the year.
Animal Hats
One of the most popular games that young children play is pretending to be their favorite animals. Make cones out of cheap craft foam sheets and allow your kids to decorate the cone hat like the animals of their choice. They can make up a story starring their animal selves, or close their eyes while someone else chooses a hat for them and then gives them clues until they can guess which animal they are.
Tissue Paper Pictures
Cut inexpensive colored tissue paper into small squares and provide heavy paper onto which kids will glue the squares. They can use a variety of colors to make shapes that represent water, grass, a house, or whatever their imagination brings. You can cut the heavy paper or pieces of cardboard into outlines of objects and let them create the design with the tissue. Once hung, the pictures are fun for them to touch, since it is a different textile experience. They can even continue adding to their masterpieces as they collect stamps, stickers, beads, glitter, and other small items.
