Steps To Make Homemade Cheerleading Gifts

Personalized cheerleading gifts are easy to make.

Cheerleading takes a lot of time and dedication. The squad spends a great deal of effort practicing together and forming a tight-knit community. Often squad members give each other gifts for a birthday or holiday. Homemade gifts are also great for a special event such as a cheerleading competition or a big game. They are affordable and will allow you to personalize the gift with the squad's colors and mascot.

Instructions

Hair Ribbons

1. Make matching hair ribbons for the entire cheerleading squad. They can be worn for games or on game days when the cheerleaders wear their uniforms to school.

2. Buy bolts of grosgrain ribbon in the colors of the team the cheerleaders cheer for. Buy ribbon in each color.

3. Buy squeezable fabric paint with a small tip in the colors of the school or team. These should be the same colors with similar tones as the ribbon.

4. Cut the grosgrain ribbon into pieces that are 15 inches long. Cut one piece for each cheerleader you are making a gift for. At the end of each piece of ribbon cut a V-shape up toward the center of the ribbon. Finish the edges of the ribbon by putting a non-fraying fabric glue along the area you have cut.

5. Use the fabric paint to write the intials of the school or team name in a contrasting color. For example if the school is named Southeast High School, write SE or SEHS. Practice writing the letters on a piece of paper to see how big to write them and decide the orientation you want. Repeat with each color.

Personalized Bloomers

6. Buy a pair of cheerleading bloomers in a color and size to match the cheerleading uniform. Select a fabric paint that is also a color from the uniform but contrasting to the color of the cheerleading bloomers.

7. Place a piece of cardboard inside the bloomers to separate the front from the back. This will eliminate the possibility of fabric paint seeping from one side of the bloomers to the other when personalizing them.

8. Cut the letters of the alphabet stencil apart. Find the letters of the name of the person you are making the gift for. Lay them out on the bloomers where you want to personalize them. If there are rules for the cheerleaders about having lettering on their bloomers put the letters towards the waist of the bloomers where they will not be visible during cheering.

9. Tape the first letter to the bloomers. Dip your stencil brush into the paint and dab onto the stencil. Make sure to fill the entire stencil with fabric paint while holding the stencil securely. Carefully lift the stencil directly up while holding the fabric of the bloomers in place. Let the paint dry completely.

10. Repeat the process with each letter of the name until completed. Set the fabric paint according to the manufacturer's instructions.
