Easy Methods To Clean Custom Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are usually made with cloth, but can also be made of wood, aluminum or vinyl. They are easy to clean and will stay looking nice with routine maintenance as well as regular deep cleaning. Treat vertical blinds with care and give them a quick cleaning as part of your housecleaning routine to keep them dust and debris free.

Daily Cleaning

Every time you are picking up or doing daily cleaning, grab a dry cloth or feather duster and run it down the length of your vertical blinds. Vertical blinds collect dust easily and if you keep it from accumulating the blinds will be easier to clean later. A microfiber cloth is well suited for this, but an ostrich feather duster works well, too. Another option is to use the attachments on your vacuum cleaner for quick blind cleaning and dust removal. Never use harsh cleaning chemicals on blinds of any material.

Cloth Blinds

You have several options for cleaning your vertical fabric blinds, all of which are fairly simple. You can use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove the dust. For stains, use a damp cloth and a mild detergent to scrub the stain out. Never immerse your blinds in water or use harsh chemicals. A fabric cleaning wipe also can be used.

Wooden Blinds

Never use water on wooden blinds. The wood can become warped, affecting the way the blinds look, and they may not hang properly. Carefully clean wooden blinds using only a soft cloth or duster. For more heavy duty cleaning, purchase lemon cleaning oil that can be used on wooden blinds, or just use warm water. A damp cloth can be used, but make sure it is not saturated and use it sparingly.

Aluminum and Vinyl Blinds

Vacuum aluminum blinds or dust them with a soft cloth. If you want to clean them more thoroughly, wash them with lukewarm water and a soft cloth; never use hot water on aluminum blinds. For vinyl blinds, spray on a household glass cleaner and wipe up dirt with a soft cloth. You also can wipe them clean with a sponge or vacuum them to keep the dust away. Remove stains by spot cleaning with mild detergent and warm or cold water.
