Seashells come in a variety of shapes and colors suitable for crafts.
Seashells come in a variety of colors and shapes that make them fun to collect and pretty to look at, but they can also be used for a number of craft projects. Using seashells, you can create a range of crafts to give as gifts or even to use to decorate your own home or outdoor landscape.
Seashell Displays
Seashells are ideal for using as the central element of a coastal display. There are numerous ways you can display seashells. Glass jars filled with alternating layers of colored sand and seashells is one way. A shadowbox, which you can purchase in a hobby and craft store, is also an ideal way to display seashells.
Jewelry
Seashells make good material for necklaces and bracelets. A small drill to put a hole in your shells is all you need to prepare the seashells for stringing onto twine or thin chains. Use a variety of shapes, sizes and colors to create a whole line of seashell jewelry.
Crushed Seashell Art
Seashells can be easily broken and crushed into small pieces or even ground into powder. You can use a clear-drying glue on paper and glue the crushed seashells to construction paper or poster board to create original artwork.
Picture Frame and Jewelry Box
Decorate a store-bought picture frame with seashells to give it a coastal appeal. Any strong, clear adhesive glue will hold shells to a frame. Use combinations of seashells to give your picture frame visual appeal. Large seashells in the corners, with smaller, various-colored shells along the edges of the frame is one way to arrange them. You can also spruce up an old jewelry box by adding small seashells around the edges or by creating an image design from shells on top of the box.
Seashell Art
Use acrylic paint to paint seaside images on large seashells. These seashell art pieces using the shell itself as a canvas can make ideal decor for any room where you want an ocean-side decorative touch.
