Steps To Make Handmade Pear Ornaments

Make ornaments in the shape of one of nature's finest fruits.

Getting ready for the holidays can be a lot more fun if you are getting the chance to indulge your creative side. Homemade Christmas ornaments are a perfect opportunity for that. Handmade pear ornaments can add some class and sparkle to your holidays and they are surprisingly easy to make. You can make them at home with a few basic craft supplies. Try making your own beaded pear ornaments for your tree, wreath or window this year.

Instructions

1. Cut your 3-inch ball in half with a serrated knife and dig a small amount of the Styrofoam from the cut half so that it can cup the edge of the larger ball.

2. Place the half ball on top of the 5-inch ball and place three straight pins into the half ball and through the top of the 5-inch ball to secure them together. This creates a pear shape.

3. Pour a bag of green or gold micro beads into a shallow bowl.

4. Cover the Styrofoam pear in a thin layer of tacky glue. Spread it so the entire pear is covered.

5. Roll the pear in the bowl of beads to cover it. The glue will grab and hold the beads on the surface of the pear. Allow the glue to dry for about 20 minutes.

6. Poke a slit in the top of your pear with your serrated knife. Insert your twig inside the slit and pour some tacky glue inside to hold it in place. This is the pear's stem.

7. Glue the silk leaf to the side of the stem.

8. Tie a loop of ribbon or fishing line around the stem to serve as a hanger for the ornament.
