Searching Just Like A Latin Dancer

Latin dancers have a glamorous style of their own.

Latin dancers are immaculately groomed and glamorous. Elaborate dresses are counterbalanced with sleek hairstyles, and dramatic make up complements the bold, daring colors of the costumes. Whether you are dressing as a Latin dancer for a theme party or a dance performance, you will need to pay close attention to all aspects of your appearance from head to toe.

Latin Dance Dress Styles

Latin dance dress styles vary from the traditional frilled flamenco dress of the Spanish dancer to the sleek, figure-hugging dresses worn for competitive ballroom performances of the paso doble or tango. Frills, ruffles, fringes and feathers encapsulate quintessential Latin dance style. Colors should be bold and bright; red and orange are ideal.

Latin Dance Hair Styles

Latin dancers wear their hair in sleek, dramatic styles. Short hair is often slicked back away from the face in a neat bob. Long hair is combed smooth and given a center or side part, then arranged in a low bun at the back or side of the head. A large decorative adornment such as a fabric flower or spray of feathers is attached to the bun.

Latin Dance Make Up

Make up needs to be strong and dramatic to match the overall look of the outfit and bold styling of the dance. Fake or spray tan provides a dark base to mimic Latin skin coloring. Eyes should be heavily outlined with dark kohl and defined eyebrow shapes drawn in. Wear lip color in bright shades of orange or red, sealed with a glistening coat of lip gloss.

Shoes and Accessories

Large earrings are worn to complement the hair decoration. Keep other jewelry to a minimum to avoid entanglement while dancing. Shoes with heels are essential -- competitive dancers will need professional dance shoes. Wear a feather boa or carry a fan or castanets for a theme party costume.
