Join a local chapter of the Red Hat Society and make themed crafts for yourself or to give as gifts. This is a social organization for women in their 50s who want to enjoy activities with other women in their age group. Red Hat crafts include bright wearable items and artwork in red and purple.
Red Hat Pin
Spray-paint small straw hats with red paint. Add a thin satin purple ribbon and decorate the hats with bits of purple feathers; jeweled, shiny beads and rhinestones using hot glue. Attach a pin clasp on the back of the hat. These little pins make very nice token gifts or party favors for Red Hat Society members.
Red Hat Jewelry
Arrange assorted red and purple beads in varied shapes and sizes using a jewelry bead board with felt grooves and measurements. Decide on the length of the necklace, perhaps 20 inches or longer. Start at the center groove of the bead board and design one-half of the necklace to the right, then lay identical beads in the same order to the left. Cut a long length of nylon-coated jewelry wire. Attach one part of a toggle clasp at one end and string the beads in the order designed. At the center, add a Red Hat-themed pendant, then add the remaining beads to complete the necklace. Attach the other part of the toggle clasp at the end and snip off excess jewelry wire.
Red Hat Decoupage Journal
Cover the front and back of a composition journal with an assortment of Red Hat-themed decorative papers as well as solid-color red and purple paper, images and embellishments. Use a craft sealant such as Mod Podge and foam brush to attach torn bits of paper. Use the same medium to embellish the journal with Red Hat-themed images, words, phrases and other decorations. The Mod Podge is milky white but dries clear.
Stamped Red Hat Cards
Use a paper cutter to cut sheets of white card stock into 10-by-7-inch pieces. Fold each one in half to make a blank 5-by-7-inch card (to fit an A-7 envelope). Stamp the front of the cards with rubber stamps that have Red Hat-themed images and red and purple ink. Make a number of the cards, each one a little different. Tie six or eight with envelopes with a pretty purple and red bow to give as a gift.
