A homemade party invitation greets guests in a more personal way. Homemade invitations are especially ideal for unusual event themes that might not offer many commercial party supplies. The customization isn't the only benefit of handmade invites. You save a significant amount of money by making your own invitations to birthdays, holiday events, showers and other celebrations. Simple homemade invitations require only basic craft skills, making it possible for anyone to handle. This is also a good opportunity to get the kids involved so they can add their own touch to the invitations.
Instructions
1. Determine the theme for the party and invitations. Brainstorm a list of possible decorations for the invitations based on the theme. For example, a princess theme could use tiaras, fancy dresses, wands or castles on the invitations.
2. Decide on the shape of the invitation. A basic square or rectangle works well, but theme-related shapes make for a more interesting invitation. Shape ideas include an ornament for a Christmas party, a hard hat for a construction party, a barn for a farm party or a shark for an ocean party.
3. Create a template for the invitations. Draw the desired shape on sturdy paper or cardboard. Cut out the template.
4. Trace the invitation template on a piece of card stock in an appropriate color. Draw a light line around the template with a pencil. Cut out each invitation.
5. Add details to one side of each invitation with appropriate craft supplies. Materials that could be used include tissue paper, glitter, markers, paint, sequins or decorative papers. Make the shape look like the actual object through details.
6. Write the party details on the back of each invitation. Write them by hand or type up the details on the computer, print out the information and glue it to the invitation.
