When it comes to decorating a reception, many party planners want to use all aspect of the room, including its height. Creating tall arrangements is one way to add more dimension while creating interesting centerpieces that draw the guests' eyes upward. There are many materials that can be used to create tall arrangements at a reception and carry the party's theme.
Instructions
1. Pick a theme for your reception, if you haven't already. Themes can focus on anything you choose, including places, ideas, decades, seasons or colors. Whatever the theme, it should be incorporated in your reception's centerpiece arrangements.
2. Decide what kind of materials you want to use for your reception arrangements. Flowers, candles, balloons and even water can all be used to create tall centerpieces.
3. Use flowers and other natural accents to create towering arrangements at your reception. Start with a tall vase that's sturdy but still thin enough that guests will be able to see each other around it. Fill the vase with your favorite flowers or blossoms that carry the reception's theme. Long stem roses or calla lilies are a few flowers with height that can complete an arrangement. Accent the flowers with other natural decorations, including long peacock feathers, grass reeds or twigs.
4. Create a tall arrangement using bunches of balloons. Make sure each one is filled with helium so it will soar toward the ceiling. Choose balloon colors that match the reception's feel or find unique shapes that can carry the theme. Some balloons come shaped as letters, so consider incorporating letters with significance to the event. For example, if it's a wedding reception, use a balloon depicting the first letter of the couple's last name. Secure each balloon bouquet with a weight that's also decorated to fit the wedding's theme.
5. Set a tall candelabra in the center of each table for an arrangement that will draw guests' attention upward. Find candelabras with lots of arms to provide extra dimension and light throughout the event. Some of these fixtures also come with a vase for flowers in the center, which can add color to the centerpiece, too.
6. Create a tall arrangement using water as inspiration. Submerge flowers or fruit in a tall vase for a one-of-a-kind underwater centerpiece. For large tables, set up a cascading fountain in the center. Bring the arrangement to life, literally, by setting up a tall vase with bright fish swimming inside. Just remember that these fish are living creatures and should be handled with care.
