Knit a Shawl
Knitting is a terrific pasttime that not only keeps your hands busy, but allows you to make gifts for yourself, or family and friends. Some easy projects for novice knitters are scarves and shawls. This project is a simple triangle shawl that anyone with some basic knitting skills can whip up in no time! It's all in garter stitch, and the instructions are pretty basic, so you can work while watching television or sitting outdoors!
Instructions
1. Start with the point. Cast on two stitches in a knit stitch. This pattern is in garter stitch, which means you'll knit every row.
2. Row 2 will be one increased stitch, knit, then one increase at the end of row as well. To increase a stitch, make a backwards loop onto right needle, so that the working yarn points away from you. That is technically called a "make one away" increase stitch.
3. Continue the pattern. Every other row you'll increase the shawl by two stitches, one in the front, and one at the end of the row.
4. Work until you have 202 stitches.
5. Bind off with 204 stitches using any preferred cast-off technique.
