Steps To Make A Glass Tray With Peacock Down

Peacock feathers can be used to make an old glass tray seem like a new work of art.

You do not need to be a glassblower in order to make attractive glass trays decorated with peacock feathers. You can get a similar effect through the art of decoupage. Choose the glass tray you wish to embellish, gather a few nice feathers and glue your way to a glass work of art that is sure to garner much attention and many compliments from friends. Add flowers, glitter, photos or other flat objects to enhance the feathers if you choose.

Instructions

1. Wash and dry the glass tray you will be using. Lay the tray facedown on a flat surface. The feathers will be applied to the underside of the tray, preserving the tray's usefulness while allowing the feathers to show through the glass.

2. Arrange peacock feathers on the glass tray until you get them in the design you want. You can use one feather centered in the glass, for example, or 20 feathers overlapping to cover the whole tray surface. The choice is yours. Once you have chosen a design, set the arranged feathers aside.

3. Paint the tray with decoupage glue in the areas where the peacock feather eyes will lay using the foam brushes. Paint one eye area at a time, and lay the feather before you move on to the next feather so the glue doesn't dry before you are finished. Let the glue dry before affixing the rest of the feathers' filaments.

4. Coat the remaining filaments of the each feather with glue. Arrange them in the direction you wish. Use tweezers to place the small feathers if necessary. Repeat with each feather until they are all placed. Add any other bits of colored paper, foils or photos at this time. Coat the front of the item with glue. Place it facedown on the underside of the glass tray and pat it down into place. Allow the glue to dry.

5. Add several coats of glue to the underside of the tray. Brush the glue on gently to avoid disturbing the feathers. Allow each coat to dry before adding a new coat. Continue adding glue until all the decoupaged items are covered.

6. Spray the glass with an acrylic sealant for added protection if you wish.
