Crafts For Table decorations For Any Formal Dining Room Table

A formal dinner table should be elegant with a flawless setting before the guests arrive. This includes your centerpiece, even if it is hand crafted. Take the time to design a centerpiece which complements your table settings in color and taste. A crafted centerpiece allows your talents to shine if done correctly with an eye toward detail.

Topiary

Create your own topiary for the table. For a seasonal fete, design a Christmas tree as you cut square plant foam into a triangular shape and insert it into a white, red or green ceramic urn. Choose either white or red carnations for your tree as you slice the stem almost to the head. The stem is pushed into the damp foam as you build the flowers from the top to the base of the tree. Sprinkle tiny Christmas ornaments or balls into the tree by pushing their hangers into the foam. Cover the top with flowers or stick a star on top.

Vase

Give a plain vase a more distinguished appearance. Wrap two rubber bands around a circular vase near the top and bottom of the vase. Slip painter brushes under the bands with the brush near the top of the vase until the whole vase is covered. Wrap metallic silver ribbon around the bands to hide them as you place them. Insert silver pheasant tail feathers around the perimeter of the vase with one large black, silver or red glass rose in the center.

Paper Centerpiece

Design your own paper Christmas tree for the table. Draw the tree on two folded pieces of ivory card stock before cutting the design out with a craft knife. Remember to leave the bottom flat for the base of the tree to stand. Put the pieces back to back at the fold and sew them together down the middle. This will enable them to balance the weight to stand upright. Make several trees to decorate the length of a rectangular table. Cut out tiny snowflakes to sprinkle along the path between the trees.

Beaded Eggs

Make your own beaded eggs for a centerpiece display. Paint a wooden egg to coordinate to your table setting and allow it to dry. Determine the bead design for your eggs and then apply the design by adding glue to the egg and dipping the egg into the beads. Create a flower on the egg with a color mixture of beads or go for a pinstripe design with a thin band of glue and beads. Place the eggs into an egg container and group the egg containers in the center of the table or elevate them onto a cake plate. Place some eggs into the container, with others resting against the container or laying on the plate.
