Yarn feathers
can be used for a wide variety of crafts.
Feathers can be made out of a wide material including yarn. Yarn feathers need a strong base to attach the strands of yarn to or else the feather will collapse. These feathers require very little crafting ability beyond measuring and cutting crafting materials with scissors. You must also know how to tie yarn to the pipe cleaners with a basic knot. Cut several different lengths of yarn to create the narrow top and bottom of a feather.
Instructions
1. Measure out a length of pipe cleaner at 3 inches long. Cut it off with your scissors. Place the pipe cleaner to the side for now.
2. Cut out 20 craft wires for each side of the feather. Gradually increase the length of the wires from 1/4 of an inch to 1 inch and then back down to 1/4 of an inch.
3. Measure and cut out pieces of yarn that match the length of the wires. Tie the yarn to the lengths of wire with 1/8-inch craft wire pieces at the top, middle and bottom of the yarn.
4. Take a 1/4 inch yarn and wire strand and wrap the end of it around the pipe cleaner until it is held firmly in place. Place another 1/4 inch strand across from this strand in the same method.
5. Wrap the next longest strands of wire and yarn at 1/8 of an inch down from the top strand. Line these up so that they run parallel to the strands above them.
6. Continue to add wider strands until you hit the longest middle strands. Begin adding the smaller strands for the opposite side. Keep adding the wires and strands until you reach the bottom of the feather.
