Simple Suggestions For A Girl'S Room

Pink and other pastel colors remain a staple when designing a young girl's bedroom.

Simple additions to a young girl's bedroom can add a feminine touch to the decor and also prove affordable. Brightly colored paint can liven up an old piece of furniture or dull walls while many major department stores or big box retailers offer girlish knickknacks and accessories at low prices.

Paint and Stencils

A coat of bright pastel paint can easily brighten any young girl's room, including various shades of pinks, yellows or purples. For added effect, use stencils on the wall's upper border, including such images as tiaras, hearts, flowers, rainbows and ballerina shoes. You can also apply matching stencils to the bed's headboard. Fuzzy and brightly colored pillows make a quick and cheap addition to the bedding as well. White curtains can offset the room's bold shades. You can tie the curtain fabric back using colored satin ribbon, tulle or lace.

Accessories

Design dainty accessories for the room, including homemade frames or jewelry boxes. Many arts and crafts stores sell do-it-yourself kits for both items and feature such decorative materials as rhinestones, buttons, embellishments and stickers. Photo boards often come in a variety of bright colors or floral patterns and provide young girls the opportunity to display pictures of themselves with their closest friends and family members. A simple yet feminine touch to any room involves tying a feather boa or a flowing scarf to a door hanger or just draping it over the edge of a standing mirror.

Seating

You can place colorful bean bags throughout a young girl's room, providing ample seating for them to hang out with their friends. Girls may also enjoy a vanity desk equipped with a cast iron stool, ideal for playing dress up or applying children's lip gloss and glittery nail polish. You can even feature a used vanity found at a yard or estate sale, outfitting the desk with a distressed, shabby chic look. A director's chair will also complement a vanity desk. As an added touch, you can spell out the young girl's name on the back of the chair using iron-on letters or needle point stitching.
