Homemade Feather dusters

Make a homemade duster out of fleece.

Forget about buying new dusting wands every time your old ones wear out. Store-bought dusters can be expensive, but you can make your own homemade dusters using fleece scraps. Fleece picks up dust like a magnet and is so soft that it will not scratch or mar your treasured collectibles. Fleece is also washable, giving you the ability to soak your homemade fleece dusters in a soap and water solution. Simply dust, soak and hang your duster to dry, whenever necessary.

Instructions

1. Gather pieces of fleece to make your dusters. You can use pieces of arctic fleece from the fabric store, or you can cut up an old fleece shirt or blanket to make your homemade dusters.

2. Cut the fleece into strips with a pair of sharp scissors. Cut the strips 12 inches long by one-half inch wide. Cut as many strips as you can get out of the fleece. Use every inch of the fleece to get the maximum amount of strips.

3. Lay the strips on a table, one on top of the other, lining them up perfectly from end to end. The thicker you make the pile, the better. The amount of strips you place in the pile will determine the density of your homemade duster.

4. Cut a 12-inch piece of string to wrap around the center of the fleece strips. Stretch the piece of string out in front of you on the table, and place the pile of fleece strips exactly in the center of the string. Tie the string tightly, securing the strips together like a pompom.

5. Lay a dowel on the table in front of you. Center the tied fleece strips horizontally over one end of the dowel. Drive a screw through the center of the strips, down into the dowel, using an electric screwdriver. The screw will attach the fleece strips securely to the dowel.
