Throw a fabulous 12th golden birthday with easy decorations.
If you have a birthday child who was born on the 12th of the month and is turning 12 on his birthday, that makes it his golden birthday, a once-in-a-lifetime event and a great excuse for an extra-special birthday celebration. Naturally, the golden birthday is often celebrated with a gold decoration theme. Decorations for a 12th golden birthday should take this theme into account.
Color Scheme
The theme color is gold, but the question is how to use it without becoming monotonous or using so much that the shades clash. You could pair gold with brown (chocolate, tan or any other shade that looks good); with cream, ivory, or white; with clear elements, such as clear balloons or clear glass or plastic plates; or, for that matter, with the birthday celebrant's favorite color. After all, it's her extra-special birthday. While black and gold is an elegant color combination, it's probably too formal for a 12th birthday. Whatever color scheme you choose, be sure to have lots of gold latex helium balloons, although you will probably have to go to the party store to find metallic balloon shades. You may be able to find disposable gold plates, napkins and cutlery at a dollar store. Real or disposable gold-rimmed white plates and gold-decorated glass items, such as candle holders, will also work with the theme and look lovely.
Stars
When most people think of gold, one of the first things that comes to mind is golden twinkling stars, so make sure to include star decorations to make the golden birthday boy a star on his special birthday. Gold star foil balloons, gold star confetti to sprinkle over surfaces, and gold star door curtains for guests to walk through are just a few of the star-themed items you can find at the party store. For a golden 12th birthday girl in particular, the more stars the better. She can hand out gold-framed novelty sunglasses and white feather boas to her friends when they arrive, and can celebrate like a Hollywood star.
Glitter
All that glitters may not be gold, but no gold-themed birthday party is complete without plenty of glitter. Pick up some gold glitter spray from the craft store and apply it to rocks, seashells, white artificial flowers and anything else you can use as decoration. Create a table centerpiece by setting freestanding gold and white candles of different heights on a dish and arranging gold glitter rocks and seashells around them. Get some gold glitter hats from the party or costume store and fill them with gold chocolate coins and other gold-wrapped candy, potato chips and butter-flavored microwave popcorn. Conveniently, common and inexpensive kids' party snacks fit the gold theme perfectly. For a really spectacular touch of glamour, hang up an inexpensive gold party chandelier made of metallic Mylar strands.
