Designing Paper Lamps For Table Table decorations

Paper lanterns project soft, ambient light.

Elegant centerpieces create a peaceful and luxurious atmosphere for a formal event that can be created without much expense. Paper lanterns are a cost-effective medium that make a statement within a budget. The lanterns are available in a variety of shapes and colors that can be personalized to fit the theme of your event. The crisp lines and delicate paper finish cater to any style whether they are used as candle holders or inexpensive vases.

Instructions

1. Set a glass vessel on the bottom of the lantern. The vessel should be tall enough to hold the lantern open. Trace around the bottom of the glass to create a template; make sure the vessel is centered.

2. Cut around the the traced line with scissors, and cut away any wire that falls within the traced line with wire cutters. Tape the inside edge with masking tape to create a smooth line. This will give the bottom of the lantern a sturdy bottom.

3. Turn the paper lantern over with the uncut side facing you. Place an LED candle at the bottom of the vase, if using. Place the metal hooks of the lantern over the lip of the vase and pull down the lantern. Tape the bottom of the lantern under the vase to secure, making sure the tape is not visible. The glass vessel gives the lantern stability.

4. Tape a patterned stencil to the lantern, if using. Make sure the tape is applied to the inside of the lantern or glass to prevent tearing. Gently dab paint over the surface of the design with craft paint. Allow the paint to dry before you remove the stencil.

5. Trim the stems of the flowers, branches or feathers to the desired length. Arrange them in the glass vase. Flowers, feathers and branches with longer stems are ideal for tall lanterns, while flowers with short stems will create a rounded shape ideal for a small lantern centerpiece. Combine the different elements for a unique look.

6. Place the lantern arrangement on a decorative tray, such as a mirror. Arrange a few flower buds or petals around the base of the lantern, if desired. Turn on the LED candle right before the event begins.
