Steps To Make A Kids' Throne

Make a throne for a perfect little princess's birthday party.

Transform a simple folding chair into an elegant throne, fit for a miniature prince or princess. Covered with a simple slipcover and decorated with feather boas and metallic decals, the throne makes a whimsical addition to a princess or prince-themed birthday party. You can customize the throne's decorations to coordinate with the party's color scheme, or use the throne-making activity as a rainy afternoon project for a young child.

Instructions

1. Slide the slipcover over the chair and arrange it into place over the back and arms of the chair. If you do not have a slip cover, cover the chair with a blanket or sheet and tie a ribbon around the base of the seat to give the cover some shape.

2. Lay a paper plate at the top edge of a piece of white felt. Trace around the top half of the circular plate. Draw straight lines from the bottom of the semicircle to the bottom of the fabric. Cut out the shape from the felt.

3. Place the felt on top of a large metallic paper doily, with the doily extending above the curved edge of the felt. Glue it in place.

4. Apply some glue to the back of the felt and press it against the backrest of the chair to make the throne's cushion.

5. Decorate the cushion with felt shapes, gold star stickers and crown or tiara stickers.

6. Place the paper plate on another piece of white felt. Trace around half the circle. Remove the plate and draw a straight line to connect the ends of the semicircle. Cut out the shape and apply glue to one side. Press the glued side against the seat of the chair to make the throne's seat cushion.

7. Wrap the boa around the chair. Fold it in half and use a safety pin to attach the fold to the top, center of the chair. Wrap the boa down the arms of the chair and connect the ends in front of the seat of the chair. Add safety pins to keep the boa in place.
