How To Locate A Thanksgiving Day Outfit

Choose a weather appropriate jacket to wear to your Thanksgiving celebration.

For Thanksgiving, find an outfit to wear that will allow you to feel both comfortable and stylish in. Use the colors, staples and trends of the season as your base. Feel free to create something that not only looks great in person, but will also look great in all those family photographs that are sure to follow once the eating and toasting have commenced.

Instructions

1. Think about your personal style and what defines it. Do you love rich colors? Lace? Belts? Fringe? Think about one or two looks that are currently in your wardrobe that you were proud to create. Determine what you liked about them and begin with similar styles.

2. Determine what color you want to wear. Many traditionalists opt for brown, which looks very nice in family photos and complements a variety of hair colors and skin tones. If you're wary of being too cliche, however, you can opt for other holiday-appropriate colors such as gray, black, navy or plum. If you're wanting to stay more within the Thanksgiving Day spectrum, you could also choose a muted shade of yellow, orange or red.

3. Review weather reports in your area to see how warmly you need to dress. For cooler weather, turtlenecks, long coats and V-neck sweaters work well. For warmer weather, light cable-knits, sweater dresses and button-up, frilly or lacy blouses will work.

4. Think about what shoes you'd like to pair with your outfit and whether they will be practical given the local weather. Blouses look lovely with tailored black pants and pointy-toed shoes. More casual cable-knit and V-neck sweaters pair well with straight-legged jeans. If you're not comfortable in straight-legged jeans, opt for any pair that is in good condition, darkly colored and well-fitted. Boots always look nice with jeans. If you wear a sweater dress, tights or skirt, pair them with either neutral-colored ballet flats, Ugg-style boots or ankle- or knee-level boots. Do not wear flipflops or strappy sandals on Thanksgiving regardless of the weather.

5. Mix in a belt, anything suede, a fitted jacket or tights to play up fall fashions.

6. Keep your jewelry muted and complementary. Wear a small pair of hoops or dangly earrings, or, better yet, a pair of studs. Choose either a gold or silver necklace with a small charm or a longer chain-style necklace. Gold-dipped leaves, shamrocks and other nature-centric jewelry will likely be a bit much.
