Kids Easter time Arts & Crafts

Make flower crowns or bunny treat cups to get kids in the Easter spirit.

Easter celebrations are often marked by bright colors and floral arrangements; encourage children to create decorative Easter projects in this vein. Choose the projects based on the supplies on hand. Children of any age can participate in arts and crafts, but pick activities for kids based on their ability levels.

Egg Zoo

Decide what type of animal you want to create. Position a hollow plastic-egg vertically if the animal you choose is taller than it is wide, or horizontally if the animal is wider than it is tall. Draw a face on the egg in permanent marker. Glue pom poms on the egg for legs. Cut out bits of felt for ears, tails, wings or stripes. Fill the egg with Easter candy.

Egg Carton Carrot Patch

Cut the top of an egg carton in half for the carrot patch. Turn the carton upside down and paint it green. Paint the flat parts of the carton compartments brown. Glue orange beads on top of each mound for carrots. Glue 1 inch of green pipe-cleaner to the bead for the carrot stem. Add a rabbit in the carrot garden by gluing together a couple of pom poms. Glue wiggle eyes and felt ears to the pom poms.

Animal Treat Cups

Cover Styrofoam or paper cups with construction paper. Draw a rabbit's face on the cup with marker or crayon, but do not draw ears. Cut the bunny ears out of construction paper and glue them to the back of the cup. Fill the cup with Easter treats. Glue cotton balls on cups to make sheep, or use faux feathers or yellow craft pom poms to make chicks.

Flower Crown

Paint paper plates green with tempera or poster paint. Help students cut the plate with a craft knife, making a slit through the center that leaves 1 inch of the rim intact on either side of the plate. Make three more incisions so the plate is divided into eight triangular sections, all of which remain attached to the intact rim. Bend the triangles upward so it looks like a crown. Cut out little paper flowers; glue one to each point on the crown.
