Crepe paper is inexpensive, colorful, and useful for a wide variety of craft projects.
Crepe paper isn't just for pre-printed party streamers. This versatile, inexpensive lightweight paper is a crafter's dream. It lends itself to everything from wreaths to airplanes to fancy disposable boas for children's dress-up parties. Next time you need a quick, affordable craft project idea, consider whipping up one of these crepe paper creations.
Pom-Pom Boa
Every little girl loves a fancy boa, and crepe paper is perfect for creating them quickly and easily. Consider creating a few of these to drape over the chairs at your child's next tea party. It's easy enough that even a kid can help! All you have to do is cut strips of crepe paper about a foot long, crumple them into balls, and tape them together with clear tape. The more balls you create, the puffier your boa will be. Continue crumpling and taping until you have an approximately 4-foot long boa. Use different colors to make your fluffy neckwear extra festive!
Holiday Decorations
The crepe paper color selection at your local craft emporium should provide the necessary spectrum for the flag of any country. This makes crepe paper ideal for holidays such as the Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. Making flags is an ideal project for teaching children about the culture and customs of other countries. Other crepe paper holiday decorations are snowflakes, feathers on a Thanksgiving turkey and Halloween pumpkins or ghosts. And of course everyone loves a handmade valentine!
Wrapping Paper
Need to give a last minute gift but don't have any full sheets of wrapping paper? Gift wrapping is an excellent use of crepe paper odds and ends. Cut strips long enough to wrap around your package, lay them side-by-side, and tape them together into a sheet. Set your gift box onto the taped-together strips and wrap them around it so that the side that was face-down now shows. The multicolored, overlaid strips create an interesting texture.
