Steps To Make Halloween Bird Costumes

Halloween is great time for dressing up.

Making a costume at Halloween is a really enjoyable activity whether you are young or old. Creating a bird costume is fairly simple and inexpensive. This costume can be made into any size and can be added to, or adjusted depending on your own taste. If you haven't got the materials you need at home they can be bought from your local craft store or online. Make this bird costume and be the envy of your friends at the Halloween party.

Instructions

The Head

1. Cut a strip of thick black paper or cardboard 2 1/2 inches wide, place around your head or the person you are making the costume for to measure the size. Staple the cardboard together where it fits comfortably and trim off any excess paper.

2. Cut out a rectangular piece of black fabric that is large enough to drape from the top of the head to the top of the shoulders. Place the material inside the black cardboard band you have just made for the head, so that the fabric will cover the head and hang to the shoulders. Staple in place all the way around.

3. Fold a piece of the black cardboard in half length-ways. Draw a line in pencil from the bottom right hand side to the top left hand side. Cut along the line. This is going to be your beak.

4. Open the card out and on the widest edge make a 1/2 inch fold. Place this edge along the bottom edge of your headband. Use the stapler to attach the beak.

5. Attach black feathers to the top of the head band all the way around. If you wish, add more feathers to the bottom edge of the head band and/or the bottom edge of the fabric. The head of your bird costume is complete.

The Body

6. Put on the black cape. This can be a plastic or fabric vampire cape that has been bought from a costume shop or you can make your own with black fabric

7. Raise your arms and get someone else to staple the cape together just underneath each arm. If the fabric is too thick, just sew with a few tacking stitches. This will give the impression of wings.

8. Staple feathers to the shoulders, wings and the bottom of the cape to give the completed "bird" look.
