Steps To Make A Carnival Outfit

Celebrate Mardi Gras with color.

Mardi Gras is a celebration of grandeur in New Orleans, Louisiana. The party symbolizes the Catholics "letting loose" before Lent when they enter into a time of repentance and abstinence. The Mardi Gras celebration reaches beyond the constraints of religion, and many cultures mix in one giant party in the streets. People dress up in colorful costumes, especially in green, yellow and purple hues, and dance in the streets. The costumes can be made at home with a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Search your closet to find any colorful clothing. Mardi Gras outfits are made from many different pieces, including vests, top hats, tee shirts, lingerie and any other outrageous clothing. Pull out any loud colors or unique items of clothing and use them to put together an outfit you will be comfortable wearing.

2. Purchase body paint to decorate the face, hands, and any other exposed skin in yellows, greens and purples. Use the paint as little or as much as desired. The idea is to have fun with the costume; no amount of extravagance is too much at the festival.

3. Drape feather boas and colorful beads around your neck, in your hair or hanging from your clothing. Feathers and beads are a staple at Mardi Gras, and if you arrive without these items, you will certainly leave with them. Use as many or as little as desired.

4. Create a mask for the festival. Masks can be created from simple patterns and colorful foam or other comfortable material. Make sure the eye holes are big enough to see through and adorn the mask with feathers. Attach a stick to the side of the mask if you plan to hold it, otherwise, attach string to holes to tie the mask around the head.
