Goth clothing
can be sexy, scary or beautiful, depending on the wearer's imagination.
Goth clothing consists of more than black or dark clothing and hair. It incorporates elements of Victorian and Edwardian England, punk rock styles, leather and rubber fetish costumes, feathers, boas and all types of pagan and religious imagery. Ideas for Gothic club outfits range from merely dark to totally outrageous. Some basic mix-and-match ideas, however, remain common among devotees of the Goth scene.
PVC Pants, Skirts and Tops
Wear slick, glossy latex or PVC leather. Shiny faux leather clothing made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plays a great part in many Goth ensembles. While some Goths wear real leather jackets and pants, most favor the slick, tight feel of PVC, which comes in a variety of colors, from purple to blue to hot pink, and, of course, black. Black "emo" pants, some with pins or a ripped appearance, are boot-cut and stretchable. Other popular PVC clothing items include opera gloves, mini-skirts and zip-up tops. They can be paired with other PVC clothing or worn with other Goth staples, like tulle, chiffon and lace. The alternate clothing company Lip Service and Goth shops on eBay offer many types of PVC and faux leather clothing, from catsuits to bras to men's trousers.
Corsets
Goth imagery contains plenty of clothing trends from Victorian times. Bright, tight and sexy versions of the corset rank among the most sought after-Goth looks for women. They can be made of PVC, satin, lace or a combination of all these materials. Some corsets have hook closures in the back, while others have lace-up closures. Manga or tribal pattern prints, medical or military designs can also be used on corsets. Goth club girls wear corsets with mini-skirts, although they can be worn with leather pants or leggings. Purchase tamer versions of this now mainstream clothing style from major department stores and lingerie dealers like Victoria's Secret.
Velvet Jackets and Coats
Long tailored velvet jackets and coats, worn as a cover-up or part of a club outfit, usually come in black, burgundy or dark blue. Some styles sweep past the thighs, while others are shorter, ending at the waist or even slightly below the bust. Goth jackets often have decorative lace on the sides or front, though they have metal or hook closures on the front. Daring Goths also wear hooded velvet capes and riding coats, often with thigh-high boots.
