Halloween Sports Costume Ideas

Dress your
child in a sports-related costume for Halloween to exhibit his passion for sports.

If your child likes to play sports, consider a sports-themed costume for next Halloween. Not only are these costumes easy to assemble, but they also represent your child's interests. So whether your little athlete loves to play football, gets rough in the boxing ring, or enjoys a leisure game of tennis, he will certainly appreciate dressing up in a Halloween costume that exhibits his passion for sports.

Favorite Pro Athlete

Every young sports player has a professional athlete to look up to. For Halloween, let your child dress up as his hero. If his favorite NFL player is quarterback Brett Favre, for example, paint a black bar on his cheek, put on football gear, and give him Brett Favre's jersey to wear. If your child's idol is legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, put on a pair of boxing gloves and a silk robe with "Ali" on the back. Make sure you emphasize both the sport and the athlete to make the costume recognizable.

Cheerleader

Dress your girl in a cheerleader costume for Halloween.

Cheerleaders make an important asset to a sports game by providing entertainment, initiating team spirit and arousing the crowd. They are also identifiable with their iconic uniform of tight tank tops and matching pleated skirts. Cheerleader costumes can be found at your local costume shop, of you can make them yourself. To add more details, pull her hair into tall pigtails and give her pompoms to carry.

Crazy Fan

We can all appreciate the rowdy, enthusiastic fans who dress up for games in exaggerated attire, such as funny wigs, painted faces and feather boas.

If your child doesn't mind looking silly, he can dress up as one of these crazy sports fans. Buy him a wig, paint his face, give him a pair of stockings, a feather boa and a giant foam #1 hand -- all in his favorite hometown team colors -- and let him spread team spirit all over the neighborhood.

Referee

Referees have important jobs at sports games, including keeping the score, regulating rules, resolving conflicts and explaining certain actions to both coaches and fans. For an easy costume, you can dress your kid up as a referee. All you need are a black-and-white-striped collared shirt and a whistle. If she really wants to play the part, tell her to adopt a serious look for the day.

Team Mascot

A team mascot provides entertainment while symbolizing the team, and makes a fun sports-themed Halloween costume. Although hard to make yourself, you can find them online or have them custom made. Your child will have a blast walking around as the beloved mascot of his favorite team.
