Birds are nice to see in the yard. But, sometimes, they can get out of hand and start pooping on porch columns. Bird excrement is very corrosive, so it's good to keep them off the porch columns, your car and any other surface you don't want damaged. Sticky repellent works, but it's inhumane. Here are some humane ways to keep birds away.

Scare the Birds Off and Keep Them Away
1. Hang up aluminum pie tins, Mylar tape, old CDs or anything reflective. The reflection will scare the birds away.
2. Paint big eyes on a beach ball or buy a "scary eyes" or "terror eyes" ball --- this will also help scare birds away because they appear to be predators.
3. Put up pictures of birds of prey or black silhouettes of birds of prey on doors and windows.
4. Some gardeners suggest putting out powerful magnets, which will disrupt the birds' sense of direction, making them stay away.
5. Put a fake owl or some fake snakes on your porch to scare the birds away.
6. Install a moving spider with a sensor that detects vibration. It will release an 18-inch-long string that makes the spider appear to be jumping to attack the bird, then retract the string and reset itself.
