Costume Ideas Utilizing A Tutu

Use fluffy ballerina tutus to create Halloween costumes.

Tutus were once reserved for ballerinas, but the short fluffy skirts have made their way into mainstream fashion. Tutus are typically made from layers of lightweight tulle fabric and have a distinctly feminine and fluffy appearance. Young girls and adult women can wear tutus to make an assortment of Halloween costumes.

Ballerina

Tutus are an essential element for a ballerina Halloween costume. With the addition of a leotard, some tights and some ballet shoes, any girl can become a prima ballerina. Use a creative twist to the standard ballerina costume. Create a ballerina bunny costume. Use a white leotard, tutu, tights and slippers to create the costume. Add bunny ears and a tail to the outfit. You can also use face paint to add a nose and some whiskers. Turn any type of animal into a ballerina with a few simple costume elements. Create a dancing bear costume with a brown ballerina outfit and some simple bear ears.

Insect World

Butterflies are about as feminine as a tutu. Create a butterfly costume by adding butterfly wings to a standard ballerina costume. Add an antenna headband to complete the butterfly look. You can also create a dragonfly costume with a tutu and some wings. Create a ladybug costume by wearing a black leotard and tights and a red tutu. Cut out black felt dots to hot glue or sew to the red tutu. Add black ladybug wings and antennae for a ladybug costume.

Princess

Make a feminine princess costume with a tutu. Wear a beautiful blouse and a tutu in matching colors. A satin blouse or one that has sequin or sparkly embellishment is a good choice. Pink and light blue are appropriate princess colors. Accessorize with costume jewelry that matches the outfit and, of course, a tiara. Add makeup, some face sparkle and carry a scepter. Add fairy wings to create a beautiful fairy princess costume.

Angel

An all-white leotard and white tights are a good start to an angel costume. Add a white tutu or even a silver tutu to the ensemble. Feathered white angel wings make for an appropriate accessory. You can use nylon wings with silver sparkle too. Create a halo out of wire and a white feather boa or a cardboard ring that is painted silver. You can also create a halo by twisting silver star garland into a circle and securing with a wire. Face or hair glitter can add sparkle to an angel costume.
