How You Can Create Football T shirts

Express your love of football with a football shirt.

People express their affinity for sports in many ways. Some decorate entire rooms with sports paraphernalia; some tailgate for hours in the parking lot on game day; some are season ticketholders who haven't missed a game in over a decade. Another way to show your love is with clothing. If, for example, you're a die-hard football fan, buy ball caps, jerseys, and even ties. Or try making your own football shirt. A plain white tee, polo or tank top is a blank canvas with which you can cheer on your favorite team and showcase your love of the sport.

Instructions

1. Use your shirt to cheer on your favorite player.

Put a message supporting your team on your shirt. Use letter stencils and black fabric paint to say whatever you like. Use alliteration: "49ers Fan!" or "Redskins Rule!" or "Broncos are the Best!" Stick with classics: "Go Falcons!" or "Patriots are #1!" Incorporate your name: "Ken Loves the Packers!" or "Stacey Loves the Cardinals!"; or a certain player's name: "Manning All the Way!" or "Tom 'Touchdown' Brady!" Or, pay homage to your favorite stadium: "Qwest is the Best" or "I'd Rather Be at Reliant."

2. Showcase your team's colors on your shirt.

Use your team's colors. With fabric paint, try polka dots or color blocks on the shirt, or get retro and try tie dye. You also can use the message concept but with paint in vivid team colors. "Vikings Fan" in yellow and purple. "Beat 'Em Seahawks!" in blue and green. "Steelers: Second to None" in red, blue and yellow. Another technique is adding a few decorative accents to your shirt. Sew on feathers, ribbon, lace, even several shoelaces in your team's colors. Loop some string or superglue a short piece of chain onto mini ball caps, jewelry, keychains and keyfobs, dog tags and pennants in team colors; then stitch the trinkets onto the shirt.

3. Embellish your shirt with a colorful mascot.

Put your team's mascot on your shirt. Football teams have some pretty madcap monsters, people and animals representing them out on the turf. Billy Buffalo, mascot for New York's Buffalo Bills, is an 8-foot buffalo; Sir Purr, mascot of the Carolina Panthers, is a big, black panther. The Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons are represented by a big cardinal called Big Red, and a big falcon named Freddie Falcon, respectively. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have Captain Fear, a larger-than-life pirate; and the San Diego Chargers are represented by a powerfully built fellow with a lightning bolt for a head. His name is Boltman. Draw your mascot onto the shirt, then use puffy paint, glitter, fabric paint, fabric scraps and buttons to bring them to life.
