Thanksgiving Poultry Crafts For Children

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends and food, but it's also a chance for kids to make some classic turkey crafts. Turkey crafts are easy to make because of their basic shape. Turkey crafts are a way to keep kids busy while you are getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner. They also make a fun activity for the kids while the adults are relaxing after Thanksgiving dinner. Kids' turkey crafts require basic supplies; construction paper, glue, balloons and markers or crayons--and they can provide hours of entertainment and giggles for your kids.

Hand and Footprint Turkey

A child's handprint makes a perfectly shaped turkey feather, and his foot makes a shape like a turkey body. In this kids' turkey craft, a child traces his foot onto 2 pieces of brown construction paper, and traces his hands on pieces of red, orange, and yellow construction paper. The handprints and footprints are all cut out and then the footprints are positioned so the wider part faces downward and they curve opposite each other. The feet are glued together, and the handprints are glued on the back to look like a turkey's feathers. Finally, the children can draw the turkey's face on the narrow end of the footprints.

Turkey Hat

Turkey hats are sure to make your kids giggle. They can make one for themselves, and for all of the adults in their lives as well. A turkey hat is made by cutting a circle out of construction paper for a turkey head, and a strip of paper that is fitted to their head size and stapled in the back. The turkey head is glued onto the hat, and then the sides and back are adorned with different colored "feathers" made out of construction paper. Bright, colorful feathers can also be purchased in advanced and glued to the back of the hat. The kids can draw on eyes, use googly eyes, or pom-poms. The beak can be made out of an upside down triangle of yellow or orange paper.

Turkey Balloon

A turkey balloon is an easy craft, and can even be used as a table centerpiece for the kids' table at your Thanksgiving dinner. A round, brown balloon is blown up completely, and a turkey face is created using construction paper. The turkey face is attached to the small, tied part of the balloon. Feathers shapes are cut out of construction paper and glued to the back of the balloon. Yellow pipe cleaners can be used for the turkey legs, and the turkey's face can be decorated with markers or googly eyes.
